No, I’m not talking about a couple of high school kids parkin’ their car on a country road on a Saturday night. I’m talking about groping in the dark trying to find a light bulb; about filtering through the multitude of “good ideas” trying to find my “ah-ha” moment.
As a guy whose full-time job only demands a couple of days each week, I find myself with more free time than I know what to do with. I know, most of you are probably having difficulty identifying the problem in my situation. You would love to have more free time, right? I thought so, too. . . for a while. Then I got bored. I also found that almost anything you can spend your time doing is either going to make you money or spend your money; and after not enough of the former and too much of the latter, you can find yourself in what might be called a financial hole.
So, for quite a while now, I have been trying to come up with a constructive, financially gainful way to spend my free time, and it hasn’t been as easy as I imagined. Sure, I could just get a part-time job working for The Man, and I have tried that, but I run into issues like not wanting to work nights, not wanting to work weekends, not wanting to do something I don’t like, and not wanting to do it for $9/hour. I want to be my own ticket, doing my own thing, making my own money in my own time. I want my own light bulb, but my current strategy makes it seem more like a matter of luck than appointment whether I find my light bulb in this big dark room.
I want to talk to people who have groped in the dark and found their light bulb. Enlighten me.
